The primary role of the Manitoba Provincial Assessment Program is to enhance teaching and improve student learning by informing instructional planning and helping to determine the need for changes or student specific interventions, providing feedback to students, teachers and parents about student learning, delivering information that assists in identifying trends and making decisions about resources and support.
The Provincial Assessment Program administers assessments each school year for Grades 3 and 4 in Reading, Lecture and Numeracy. For middle years, the program assesses Grade 7 in Mathematics and Grade 8 in Reading Comprehension and Writing. For High School, the program assess Grade 12 in English Language Arts, French Language Arts, Applied Mathematics, Essential Mathematics and Precalculus. The Grade 12 provincial tests are administered at the end of each semester and account for 20 percent of the student's course mark.
